UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 status, written result PDF and SSB next steps

The UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 is expected soon for candidates who appeared in the Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2026.

UPSC conducted the written examination on 13 September 2026 for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers' Training Academy.

At our latest check on 9 October 2026, the official UPSC page for CDS II 2026 did not list a Written Result PDF. UPSC has also not announced a separate result date.

Candidates should therefore treat any third-party "result out" headline with caution until the result appears on upsc.gov.in.

UPSC has already published the provisional answer keys for English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics.

That means candidates can review the official key while waiting for the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 PDF.

The distinction matters. One competitor page published on 7 October describes the written result as released, while an NDTV update dated 8 October says the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 is still expected.

The UPSC examination page remains the final authority. If a result PDF is not present there, candidates should not assume that the result has been declared.

Where will UPSC publish the CDS 2 result PDF?

Four steps to download the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 PDF and search a roll number

UPSC normally publishes the written result as a PDF on its official website. You do not need a login to search a public result PDF.

Once the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 is released, use this route:

  1. Open upsc.gov.in.

  2. Go to the Written Results section or the CDS II 2026 examination page.

  3. Find Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2026.

  4. Open the Written Result PDF.

  5. Press Ctrl + F on desktop, or use the search option on mobile.

  6. Enter your roll number exactly as printed on the admit card.

  7. Save the PDF for the SSB stage and future reference.

Do not enter your password, date of birth or payment details on third-party pages just to "check" the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026. The written merit list is expected to be a public UPSC PDF.

What will the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 show?

What will the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 show?

The written result is not the final selection list. It identifies candidates who have cleared the written stage and can move to the Services Selection Board process, subject to the conditions in the official result notice.

The UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 PDF is expected to include the roll numbers of written-qualified candidates.

UPSC may also publish a name-wise list separately. Candidates should read the complete result notice instead of checking only the roll-number pages because the notice carries instructions for the next stage.

The written result PDF generally does not function as an individual scorecard. Marks, final merit and academy-wise selection come later in the examination cycle

What happens after the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026?

What happens after the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026?

Clearing the written paper does not mean final selection. It takes you to the SSB stage.

UPSC CDS 2 selection process from written exam to SSB, medical and final merit

SSB interview

The Services Selection Board assesses officer-like qualities through a multi-stage selection process.

The exact call-up procedure depends on the service preference and the instructions issued by the relevant service headquarters.

Candidates listed in the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 should read the result notice immediately.

Do not rely on an old CDS result notice for registration deadlines, document dates or SSB reporting instructions.

For Army choices such as IMA or OTA, UPSC result notices have previously directed qualified candidates to use the Indian Army recruiting portal for SSB-related communication.

The 2026 written-result notice will confirm the instructions applicable to this cycle.

Document verification

Keep the original documents used to support your application details ready. These can include proof of date of birth, educational qualification and category or NCC documents where applicable.

UPSC and the service headquarters can ask for documents at different stages. Follow the 2026 result notice for the exact authority, address and deadline.

Do not send original certificates to an address copied from an older examination notice.

Medical examination and final merit

SSB qualification is followed by the medical process prescribed for the relevant academy and service.

Final selection depends on merit, eligibility, medical fitness and the vacancies available for the course.

The UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 is therefore the first major shortlist after the written examination, not the final appointment result.

This is useful for candidates checking the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 because the provisional keys come directly from the Commission.

They are more reliable than memory-based coaching keys, though the final result and any later final key remain the official outcome.

If you used an unofficial answer key immediately after the exam, compare it with the UPSC provisional key before drawing conclusions about your score.

UPSC CDS paper 2026 and written exam pattern

The UPSC CDS 2 examination uses different written-paper combinations for IMA, INA and AFA compared with OTA.

Academy

IMA

English, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics

300

INA

English, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics

300

AFA

English, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics

300

OTA

For IMA, INA and AFA, each written paper carries 100 marks. OTA candidates take English and General Knowledge only, for 200 written marks in total.

The official scheme also provides for negative marking in objective papers.

The number of people who clear the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 will not necessarily match the number of vacancies.

The written result is a shortlist for SSB. Final recommendations are made after the later stages and subject to the rules for each course.

For notification tracking, candidates can also use the UPSC notifications page.

How are CDS 2 written marks calculated?

How are CDS 2 written marks calculated?

The official CDS scheme uses objective papers. A wrong answer attracts a penalty equal to one-third of the marks assigned to that question. There is no penalty for a question left unanswered.

That matters when comparing your provisional score with the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026. Counting only correct answers and ignoring negative marking can produce an inflated estimate.

A simple way to review your attempt is:

  1. Count correct answers using the official provisional key.

  2. Count incorrect answers.

  3. Apply the one-third penalty to wrong answers.

  4. Keep unattempted questions separate.

  5. Treat the resulting figure as an estimate, not an official score.

Is the CDS 2 cut-off 2026 released?

No official CDS II 2026 cut-off has been published with the result at the latest check because the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 itself is still awaiting official publication.

Avoid treating coaching cut-off predictions as the UPSC cut-off. They can be used only as estimates. The Commission publishes official cut-off information later in the examination cycle.

The safest approach is to prepare for SSB if your answer-key estimate is competitive instead of waiting for a predicted cut-off to become certain.

What candidates should do while waiting for the result

The period before the UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 is better used for SSB preparation than repeated result checking.

Start with your personal information, education, interests and reasons for choosing the armed forces. Review current affairs and defence developments, but do not turn SSB preparation into memorising model answers.

The interview process is designed to assess how you think and respond, not how closely you repeat a coaching script.

Keep your CDS admit card and roll number easy to access. Also check your email and the official portals regularly after the written result appears.

Common mistakes after the CDS 2 result

Candidates often lose time because they treat the written result as the end of the process. Avoid these errors:

  • checking a third-party result page but not the UPSC PDF;

  • searching by name when the first result PDF contains only roll numbers;

  • assuming a provisional answer-key score is the official result;

  • waiting for a cut-off before starting SSB preparation;

  • missing service-specific registration or call-up instructions;

  • using an old CDS result notice for document deadlines;

  • assuming written qualification means final selection.

The full UPSC CDS 2 Result 2026 notice should be read once from start to finish as soon as UPSC uploads it.

UPSC Foundation Day 2026: 100 Years of Its Formation

A hundred years have passed since India got its first Public Service Commission on 1 October 1926. UPSC Foundation Day on 1 October 2026 marks that full century.

What started as an advisory body under colonial rule eventually became the Union Public Service Commission, an independent constitutional authority governed by Articles 315 to 323 of the Constitution.

Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi is hosting the centenary across two days, 30 September and 1 October 2026. Day one carried the title Shatabdi Samaroh - Manthan and centred on where civil services go next, how public administration can innovate, and what constitutional values mean in practice.

The Prime Minister attends the 1 October programme. A commemorative coin, a commemorative stamp, and a book covering 100 landmark judgments that shaped the work of UPSC and State Public Service Commissions are all part of the official releases.

For an aspirant, UPSC foundation day works as a current-affairs topic because it ties history to Indian Polity, governance, constitutional bodies, civil service reforms, and ethics in public administration.UPSC Foundation Day 2026: Key Highlights
