UPSC CRT 2026 Result: New Exam Date

Last updated

The UPSC CRT 2026 result has not been released yet. The reason is simple: the Combined Recruitment Test, known as CRT, has not been held yet.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) issued a corrigendum on October 16, 2026. The examination, originally scheduled for November 1, 2026, will now be conducted on January 9, 2027, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. news.careers360.com
The recruitment remains linked to the 2026 cycle because it corresponds to Special Advertisement No. 51/2026.
Even though the test will take place in 2027, the vacancies and the advertisement number remain unchanged.

UPSC had originally scheduled the CRT for November 1, 2026. The corrigendum of October 16 rescheduled the test to January 9, 2027, maintaining a two-hour duration from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
Consequently, any website currently offering a result PDF, merit list, or list of qualified candidates contains incorrect information or refers to a different recruitment drive. The only new document released is the notice with the revised date.
The designation "CRT 2026" may cause confusion. It refers to the notification year of the recruitment advertisement, not the year in which the examination will eventually take place.

The UPSC corrigendum supersedes the schedule published in Special Advertisement No. 51/2026.
Schedule | Date and Time |
Previous Date | November 1, 2026 |
Revised Date | January 9, 2027 |
Session | Morning |
Timing | 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM |
Candidates should plan their travel, leave, and preparation according to the revised date. Websites still showing November 1, 2026, as the active exam date are outdated.
The corrigendum does not reopen the application window nor does it set a result date. Its sole purpose is to reschedule the test.

The CRT corresponds to the posts of Principal and Vice-Principal in the Directorate of Education, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
Post | Vacancies | Vacancy No. |
Principal | 124 | 26075101725 |
Vice-Principal | 704 | 26075102725 |
Total | 828 | Not Applicable |
These figures appear in both the original advertisement and the corrigendum dated October 16. Unless UPSC issues another notice, the result process will cover these 828 vacancies.
Eligibility criteria, pay scales, and recruitment conditions are detailed in PadhAI's guide on the UPSC Principal and Vice-Principal Recruitment.
The original advertisement outlines the structure of the CRT. The subsequent corrigendum updated the date but made no changes to the published pattern.

Component | Official Scheme |
Duration | 2 hours |
Question Type | Objective multiple-choice questions (MCQs) |
Maximum Marks | 300 marks |
Medium | English and Hindi |
Negative Marking | One-third of the marks allotted to the question for every wrong answer |
Unanswered Question | No penalty |
Weightage in Final Merit | 75% for CRT and 25% for Interview |
The CRT serves as a screening test to shortlist candidates for the interview. Passing this test does not guarantee final selection.
UPSC additionally requires applicants to meet the minimum level of suitability applicable at each stage.
The score obtained in the CRT directly impacts the final merit ranking. It carries 75% weightage in final selection, while the interview contributes the remaining 25%. upsc.gov.in
Appendix I of the official advertisement divides the syllabus into eight core areas:
Area | General Scope / Content |
General Awareness | Contemporary social, economic, and cultural issues |
Languages | Proficiency in Hindi and English |
Aptitude | Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude |
Education | Educational policies, measurement, and evaluation |
Administration | Management and Financial Administration |
Office Procedures | Administrative rules and procedures |
Pedagogy | Pedagogy applied to education |
Digital Competencies | Digital literacy |
The postponement provides extra preparation time. Nevertheless, candidates should focus on the official syllabus in Appendix I and verify any topic expansions on the UPSC official website.
UPSC has not announced a specific result date. Since the examination will take place on January 9, 2027, any result date circulated prior to the exam should be considered speculative.

Difference Between CRT Result and Final Result
The first document published after the exam will be the list of candidates shortlisted for the interview. That list does not represent final appointment or recruitment.
Stage | Meaning |
CRT Result | Identifies candidates who qualify from the written test to the interview stage |
Final Result | Reflects final selection and recommendation after completion of interviews |
The header of the notice will clearly state the stage of the result. A shortlist for the recruitment test is not equivalent to the final recommendation list.
What Happens After the CRT Result?
Shortlisted candidates will proceed to the interview stage. UPSC will notify the interview schedule separately and require candidates to submit hard copies of their online recruitment application (ORA) along with supporting documents.
Category | Minimum Suitability Marks in Interview |
General/EWS | 50 marks and above |
OBC | 45 marks and above |
SC/ST | 40 marks and above |
These cut-offs are out of a total of 100 marks in the interview. UPSC then calculates the final merit ranking using a 75:25 weightage ratio between the CRT and the interview.
For this reason, scoring well in the written exam is critical beyond just clearing the screening cut-off, as it directly factors into the final merit calculation.
What Should Candidates Do After the Postponement?
The immediate target is the exam scheduled for January 9, 2027. Update your study schedule and allocate the remaining time across educational policy, pedagogy, administration, languages, reasoning, and digital literacy.
Keep a copy of the corrigendum saved alongside your application records. When UPSC releases the revised admit cards or additional exam guidelines, adhere strictly to the latest official notice.
The guide on the List of Exams Conducted by UPSC explains how these recruitment tests differ from the Commission's regular civil service competitive examinations.
Searching for results prior to the exam date will not yield any new updates. The next official milestone is the conduct of the CRT.
