For a lot of candidates, this result is the end of years of preparation. For others, it's the push to come back next year. Either way, if you sat for the Indian Forest Service Examination 2025, your answer is on this page.

The UPSC IFoS Result 2025 is the final merit list of candidates UPSC has cleared for appointment to the Indian Forest Service (IFS), a Group A Central Service. Two stages decide who gets on this list:
Written Main Examination
Personality Test
If your name is here, the Commission has cleared you at both stages and sent your name forward for appointment, pending eligibility checks and document verification.
The Indian Forest Service is one of the three All India Services, alongside the IAS and IPS. IFoS officers run forest divisions, wildlife sanctuaries, and national parks.
The posting is field-based, which makes it different from most other civil service roles. That combination of environmental work and field exposure is why so many aspirants specifically target IFoS over other services.
Five months have passed between the written exam and this result. That is standard for IFoS, though it is cold comfort when you are checking the UPSC website more often than you'd like to admit.
Here is the full timeline:
Written (Main) Examination: 16th to 23rd November 2025
Personality Tests (Interviews): 6th to 15th April 2026
Final Result Declared: 8th May 2026
The long gap between the Main Exam and the interviews is used to evaluate answer scripts across all papers.
After interviews wrap up, UPSC tallies combined scores, prepares the category-wise list, and runs internal checks. The commission does not rush this step, and the final list reflects that care.

The government reported 150 vacancies for IFoS 2025. UPSC recommended 148 candidates. The gap is not an error. Two PwBD-1 vacancies (Persons with Benchmark Disability, Category 1) could not be filled because no qualifying candidate in that sub-category was available. Those two slots carry forward to the next recruitment year.
One candidate's result has also been withheld by the Commission.
The category-wise break-up of recommended candidates is below:
Category | Candidates Recommended | Notes |
General (UR) | 42 | Includes 02 PwBD-2 and 02 PwBD-3 |
EWS | 21 | Economically Weaker Section |
OBC | 52 | Includes 01 PwBD-2 and 01 PwBD-3 |
SC | 22 | Scheduled Caste |
ST | 11 | Includes 01 PwBD-1 |
Total | 148 | Includes 01 PwBD-1, 03 PwBD-2, 03 PwBD-3 |
For reference, the vacancy distribution reported by the government was:
General 61,
EWS 15,
OBC 41,
SC 22,
ST 11.
If you compare vacancies to selections, you'll notice OBC recommendations (52) exceed OBC vacancies (41). EWS recommendations (21) also exceed EWS vacancies (15).
This happens when candidates from those categories qualify above the general cut-off, and their selection shifts from the reserved pool to the open pool. It is a standard UPSC practice, not a discrepancy.
When no candidate from a specific PwBD sub-category meets the qualifying standard, UPSC does not fill that slot by moving candidates across sub-categories.
The vacancy rolls over. That is exactly what happened with the two PwBD-1 positions in IFoS 2025. They will appear again in the IFoS 2026 cycle.
The list below is the complete official merit list from UPSC's Press Note dated 8th May 2026. The order is merit-based. Roll numbers and ranks are exactly as published.

Basavaraj Kempawad (Roll No. 0332660) is Rank 1.
Anshuman Kumar Singh (Roll No. 1512197) is Rank 2.
Siddharath (Roll No. 6312068) takes Rank 3.
Karan Kumar Singh is at Rank 4, and Aanchal Sharma closes the top five at Rank 5.
Aanchal Sharma's fifth-rank finish also makes her the highest-ranked woman on the IFoS 2025 merit list — a detail that tends to get skipped over in the broader coverage of this result.
What Happens After the UPSC IFoS Result 2025?
Getting on the merit list is the first gate. The actual appointment comes after several more steps, and some of them take time.
Document Verification
The government and the cadre-allocating authority will call you for document verification.
Bring originals and attested copies of your age proof, educational certificates, and category certificate if you applied under EWS, OBC, SC, or ST.
If your status is marked PwBD, that will need verification too.
Seventy-one candidates on this list carry a "provisional" tag on their candidature.
That means one or more of their claims are still being checked. If you are in this group, get your documents in order now. An appointment order will not come until verification clears.
Cadre Allocation
IFoS works on a state cadre system. You get allocated to a specific state, and you serve under that state's forest department.
The central government handles the allocation based on your rank, your preferences, and the vacancies in each cadre.
IGNFA Training
Every new IFoS officer goes to the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) in Dehradun. Training covers forest law, ecology, wildlife management, and fieldwork. It runs for about two years.
Marks Release
If you did not make the list and want to know your scores, UPSC will put individual marks on its website within 15 days of the result date.
That window opens from 8th May 2026. You do not need to apply separately; the marks go up automatically.
How to Check Your Name in the UPSC IFoS Result 2025
Three steps, under two minutes:
Open www.upsc.gov.in
Go to "Results" on the homepage.
Open the IFoS 2025 Final Result PDF. Press Ctrl+F, type your roll number.
If your roll number does not appear, you are not on the merit list. UPSC does not send personal notifications.
What Is the UPSC IFoS Selection Process?
The IFoS result you are reading comes at the end of a three-stage process. Each stage is designed to test something different.
Stage 1: CSE Preliminary Examination
IFoS does not run its own Prelims. Candidates write the Civil Services Preliminary Examination (CSE Prelims) instead. Clearing it with the required score makes you eligible to apply for the IFoS Main Examination. This is a detail many first-timers miss: you are writing CSE Prelims even if your target is IFoS.
Stage 2: IFoS Main Examination
The Main Exam has a General English paper, a General Knowledge paper, and two optional papers. Optional subjects come from a list that includes Agriculture, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Zoology, and a few others.
These are science and technical subjects, which is part of what makes IFoS different from the IAS path. Main Exam marks alone decide who gets an interview call.
Stage 3: Personality Test
The IFoS 2025 interviews ran from 6th to 15th April 2026. A UPSC board assesses your awareness, communication, and overall fit for field-based forest service. Interview marks combine with Main marks to produce the final merit score.
Provisional Candidature: What Does It Mean for You?
Seventy-one recommended candidates have provisional candidature status. This is not a red flag on your result. It means the Commission needs to verify one of your claims before issuing an appointment order.
The most common reasons: category certificate (EWS, OBC, SC, ST) has not yet been verified by the issuing authority, or a PwBD certificate needs confirmation.
Get that paperwork done without waiting for a formal notice. The system moves faster when you are ready.
PwBD Candidates: Updates for IFoS 2025
Nine PwBD vacancies were up for grabs this cycle:
04 under PwBD-1
02 under PwBD-2
03 under PwBD-3.
07 have been filled.
The 02 unfilled PwBD-1 slots carry forward to IFoS 2026, so PwBD-1 aspirants will see slightly more positions available next year.
How Do UPSC IFoS Marks Get Published?
Within 15 days of 8th May 2026, UPSC will post individual marks on its website. Here is how to access them:
Go to www.upsc.gov.in
Find the "Marks Information" section.
Enter your roll number and date of birth.
Your paper-wise and interview marks appear on screen.
This is available to all appeared candidates, not just those who made the merit list.

It is a sharper way to test recall than re-reading the same notes. The app is designed for both beginners who are still mapping the IFoS syllabus and people who have already attempted one cycle and know exactly where they fell short.
